One of the most thoughtful pandemic articles I’ve read in the last two years. Thank you

These are moments in time in the collective consciousness. Where we are, is where we are; & not by coincidence. We each have our role to play. Remote work is revolutionizing the way we go about our daily lives; for some. For those who hold the hand of a dying mother, brother, sister or father, for those who stock shelves at 3am so we may shop at 6, for those who clean the snow from our expressways so our toilet paper & food make it to where we shop, you are not forgotten. Let us be mindful of every contribution made in this fog of a pandemic. It is the only way to shed light when & where needed.

Absolutely fabulous perspective and I believe 100% accurate as to the larger societal impact of remote work. Thanks for bringing this enlightened perspective.

Fantastic perspective Marc! I had thoughts about generational changes and was unable to piece it together. You did and more! I like your possibilities for small town America and it will be interesting to watch.

This certainly is a positive take on our current National condition. It doesn’t, however, take into consideration that people of the young adult age group are not as involved nor as empathetic as the majority of our nation in the past. My thoughts are that this “ boom in economy” that he predicts may be more of a challenge than simply riding out remote employment. People need to work together and have someone to give them “Faith and Hope”. There is only one place to find that. Christ Jesus our Lord.

I agree with a couple other posters below that although this is a great positive look at our current situation, it doesn’t take into account the political machinations going on both in front and behind the scenes. I honestly believe this country is at a turning point where we can get back to our roots and work together to make a better nation and in so doing a better world, or we can continue the path of division that is so prevalent and our country will ultimately be destroyed by it.

I was just hit by this last night specifically that all the identity politics going on is the antithesis of what this country was created for, the ideal that “all men are created equal”. And if we can’t get past the division of identity politics, it will destroy us.

Thoughtful piece on the meaning behind our historical evolution. Thank you. I'd love your thoughts on scientific research from Jamil Zaki, head of the Stanford Social Neuroscience Laboratory, that shows that Americans are 75% less empathetic than people from just 30 years ago. How do you think this will play out in our history?

Good, but what about the rise of Facism in this country? The political crisis which will cause changes in the ways we elect our leaders.

Marc, A thoughtful analysis. The 80 year benchmarks are thought-provoking. Aligning social changes to general lifespan, reflects a Deus et Machina overview of life.

Great Writing! One thing I am trying to pass on to the next generation, as folks say "If I had only spent pennies a day on this stock, I'd be a billionaire!" Nobody knows what is going to happen next...someday, we will have somebody on the radio proclaiming that they knew the final outcome all along...but we sure didn't know the end of the Vietnam war ahead of time, or that after the dotcom failure, that within a few years we would all be ordering everything online...but as my brother, the factory quality guy intones now....it is the robots, it was too expensive for robots before, but this covid thing has opened the door that won't be be closed...I have noticed one thing....as much as the environment for working has changed for IT professionals, I have no recruiters talking a about stock options, vacation time, bonuses, retirement accounts....I think there is some stuff that is just the good ol' days and young folks better start being better retirement planners than my generation was...

Read the article multiple times, it’s well thought out and spot on for its particular message. I don’t see it as a spin or anything else but a highlight to what the entire class of Americans that have had both parents working tirelessly to provide for their families. I am talking mostly of the children that have seen their parents gone more and more as the workplace demands on the professional jobs has risen to heights we haven’t seen.

Every 80 yrs, a lifespan, and the for many of us children of the baby boomers, we know what face to face relationships can mean to one’s success and emational well being. This will be an absolute game changer for the generations of children that are now and have been brought up in the virtual times.

Children in school and parents at home, being involved in the communities where they live, will help reverse the live by social media and other online plateforms that plague us all. I am not saying that social media and online platforms are all bad. It’s the balance that having parents at home more, with flexibility and children learning values from them in small town American can only make society as a whole friendlier, and more Conscious of what we say and do online and in person.

One reader mentions the freedoms that were being fought for in each of the 80 yr lifecycles, and at what cost.

Every War, every significant pivotal time of us evolving as humans have come at a cost, sacrifice, to many. There would be no change without cost.

I’m general terms, society evolves and the Declaration of Independence was written as a working document, to evolve with us, but with a common sense view on the very core of our Freedoms.
